Thread: HITS glidepath

    HITS glidepath

I'm navigating with a SL-30 and a 796 with my 4500. When navigating to a destination airport with the 796 and the fight plan activated, the HITS glide slope defalts to 3.0 degrees and 1,000 ft AGL for the top of descent (using CNO as an example, my home airport, RWY 26R> 3.0 deg defalts to AT 1650, CNO elevation is 650). This is well within the FAF which is 2100 msl. My question is how do I extend the HITS glideslope top of the descent to be 3,000 msl? Is it as easy as editing the FLT PLAN so that the wapoint (destination, 26R >3.0) AT is 3,000?

As a further note, when selecting an approach on the 796 and activating it (either FAF to final, or vectors to final) the HITS glideslope
disappears with the 4500 FLT PLAN activated (In the case of CNO, in the FLT PlAN destination AT becomes 650 which is field elevation and it won't let you edit it past 900). Any reason why?

The synthetic approach boxes are only to pattern altitude. There are some enhancements planned for the 4500 flight planning that should allow you to do what you are trying to do.

When an approach is loaded from the GPS (i.e. Destination is RW## not the ICAO name) the flight plan is interpreted as an approach so the synthetic approach is removed and the touchdown altitude is set instead of the pattern altitude. In this case the HITS boxes should be connecting the points in the approach. Is this not what you are seeing?

Yes, the HITS boxes go to the FAF, but no synthetic glideslope. In my practice approaches i have cancelled the flt plan early in the approach because no HITS Glideslope was
available and switched to the ILS from the SL-30. If I edit the FLT PLAN to show the destination as the ICAO after loading an approach from the 796, will the HITS glideslope
return (even if only to pattern altitude)? I REALLY would like that enhacement of being able to extend the synthetic approach boxes out further. These are the times
    I wish I had installed a 430 and ARNIC :-)

I answered my own question by running by the airport at lunch. No you can't edit the FLT PLAN once you selected an approach from the 796. The destination already shows the ICAO.
Waiting now for the future enhancement.
