I have a backup alternator and use a dual mechanical shunt system in my RV-7. I use a selector switch to send the primary or secondary shunt information to the single ammeter input. It's worked fine and I've never had to resort to actual use of my standby generator and test it about twice a year.

Can the Hall Effect pickup on the AFS4500 be replaced with my mechanical shunt or should I just keep the selector switch wiring and plug into the Main ammeter input of the AFS4500?

Thanks
