    LPV Approach question

    Hi Rob,
I am currently learning how to properly fly coupled RNAV approaches with the 4500/Advanced Pilot/430w setup in our glasair. My question is what to expect when going from VERT ALT to VERT ARM and then VERT NAV. When I am established on the final approach course and switch from VERT ALT to VERT ARM, the AP immediately switches to VERT NAV and begins climbing to the glideslope. Should it be doing this? I had expected the alt to hold with the AP in ARM until glideslope interception. Again, I have only done 3 or 4 LPV approaches so maybe I'm just not doing it correctly or I am misinterpreting what is happening. The way it seems to be working one would need to wait until GS intercept before arming the AP in VERT. Is this correct?

As an aside, it is nice to finally have an ifr airplane again! After flying behind (VFR only) a blue mountain Efis 1 for 4 years it has taken some time to learn to trust what the efis is telling me. Previously in all critical phases of flight I would refer solely to the analog backup gauges. It has taken some time to get over this habit. It is fantastic to fly with an efis that actually works!

This is an excellent question. Surely someone knows how to make this work properly. Thanks.

It should hold altitude until it intercepts the glide slope, as long as you are above the MINIMUMS altitude bug.

    1. Verify that you have the current software:

    Product S/N Version Release Date
    AF-3400,3500 non “s” CPU (S/N: 60,000 – 60,999) 7.1.4
    AF-3400s, 3500s, 4500s “s” CPU (S/N: 61,000 - +) 7.6.14 MV12
    71400 AF-ARINC Module (ALL) 4.0

    2. Verify that your Autopilot has the latest software from TruTrak

    3. Verify that the MINIMUMS bug is set below your altitude.

    current software

    Rob:
    I am flying dual 4500s.
You list for the 4500 software ver 7.6.14 MV12. I have ver 7.4.19-MV12.
Where can I get the newer version?
How can I tell if I have the lastest software from TruTrak?
    Thanks.

You can e-mail Ken at ken@advanced-flight-systems.com to get the latest 7.6.14MV12. The TruTrak autopilot software revision is displayed on power-up.
